witnessing change (via) collective creation, colors, courage & commons

collective creation, colors, courage & commons will be the key themes, keywords, and inspirations shaping a series of regular events throughout 2025 in the district. We kick off with the Green Day Walk through the neighborhood on Sunday, March 28. Meeting point: Trash/Treasure Atelier, Paulinenstraße 48. Starting in late April (excluding summer holidays, public holidays, and bridge days) until the end of October, we will host weekly discursive and creative activities every Friday at Trash/Treasure Atelier, Paulinenstraße 48Frappanz e.V. – Space for Artistic Research, or in public spaces. More details on Instagram!

We are also looking for participants and diverse groups interested in creative activities and/or community empowerment games or those who want to share their community work in the Unionviertel. If you or your group are interested, please reach out to Vite at vite@village-together.org, and we’ll discuss how to best shape the collaboration together.

The formats are planned, but we are open to adapting them collectively!

The formats

witnessing change via collective creation // “What is the city but the people?”

This quote, revived by Jane Jacobs in the 1950s and 1960s from William Shakespeare, places people at the heart of urban development. Many projects have since demonstrated that actively shaping one’s living environment not only fosters a more conscious relationship with one’s neighborhood but also influences other areas of life. We want to harness this power and co-create a new space in Unionviertel together with interested residents. Experienced local and international artists will support us in this process.

witnessing change via colors // Communication through colors

Drawing, painting, and exploring one’s creativity can lead to greater inner freedom and sharpen the ability to focus. The artist Trash/Treasure invites you to her atelier at Paulinenstraße 48, offering an escape from everyday life into the vibrant worlds of art and meditative energy.

witnessing change via courage // "Tell me what you want, what you really, really want!"

This community-based format is inspired by the Encounter Groups Model from 1970s New York (for citizen empowerment) and Barbara Sher’s book Wishcraft, which presents it as a community game to help people realize their dreams. It’s simple: one person shares their dream and the obstacles preventing them from achieving it. Using group wisdom and collective creativity, participants brainstorm ways to overcome these barriers—whether real or self-imposed—and turn dreams into reality. Sher believed: “Isolation kills dreams,” and she proved that people—especially strangers—are inherently helpful. We’ll put this idea to the test as a social experiment! Curious,  let's try it our way?

witnessing change via commons // Exploring community-based models for a better future

This discursive format focuses on models of collective living and ownership that promote a more sustainable, fair, and ecological society. One of our key topics will be Community Land Trusts (CLTs)—we’ll invite people who have initiated CLT networks to share their insights. Another focus will be community sponsorship for refugees, where civil society takes an active role in welcoming and integrating displaced people. We’ll showcase various projects and models, including personal stories from those who have experienced these processes firsthand. For this focus, we plan to collaborate with Urbanisten e.V., offering a platform for individuals from their network.
